Predjama Castle

The Predjama castle or the castle of the Erazem rebels. The castle is Based like a rock in the south west of Slovenia an area with a particular relief named kartistic by the geologists. This word indicates a very simple reality. It is about a place where the dominant stone is limestone. Limestone being a very friable rock, these areas were shaped, during time, by the rivers as well on the surface as under ground ( caves ). The castle of Predjama is an eagle nest located in a crevice of the mountain, about 6 miles of Postojna village. The site is absolutely exceptional, the kind of sites you would believe that existed only in James Bond movies. The castle is linked to a system of caves, where you entered under the castle and a few minutes later you appear in the cave above! There is stories surrounding this castle and one is that the castle is haunted. 400 years ago the castle was the property of Countess Elizabeth Bathory also known as the Countess of Transylvania a vampire: Born 1560/61; died, August 21, 1614 The legend says that in order to improve her complexion and also to maintain her failing grasp on her youth and vitality, she slaughtered six hundred innocent young women in the Predjama Castle.
