Dubai's Palm Islands

Dubai's Palm Islands are artificial islands created in the Persian Gulf of Dubai to accommodate thousands of villas, luxury hotels and a whole high class tourism infrastructure. The construction of Palm Islands was brought by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum which dreams was to develop tourism in Dubai. The construction is realize by Nakheel Properties, a property developer in the United Arab Emirates, who hired the Belgian company Jan De Nul and the Dutch company Van Oord a dredging and marine contractor. The three islands have the shape of a palm tree and name Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira. These islands built with rocks and sands are surrounded by a dam intended for protected from the waves. The Smallest islands, Palm Jumeirah, already received its first inhabitants in 2006. The trunk of the palm tree or the main road to enter the island is one and half mile long and makes it possible to connect tourist accommodations to the town center.

According to Construction Properties officials, the process of adding 78 kilometers of beach is almost completed, while 32 hotels construction on The Palm Jumeirah including the Taj Exotica Resort and Spa, are planned to be completed in early 2009.
